"No more selfies!" This could be the slogan hanging behind a Singer of Songs on each stage of his next tour. After almost 10 years of confessing the unconfessable with his ultra-personal songs, in 2017 he suddenly had enough. Tired of navel-gazing, he began to write portraits of the people around him. His parents who fight heroically against old age. His brother-in-law who introduced him to indie music with a pile of carefully made mixtapes. The sad florist who turned out to be the happiest woman in the world. A friend's fight against cancer. The friend who fled from the war in Syria. These are only some of the stories a Singer of Songs delved into like a reporter to mold them into the 9 intimate indie-folk songs that form "Portraits", a Singer of Songs' sixth studio album.
A Singer of Songs is the alter ego of Lieven Scheerlinck, a Belgian who has been living in Barcelona for more than 20 years. Since 2008 he has released 5 studio albums and two collaborative EP's with Tiny Ruins and Withered Hand. His songs have been compared by the press to Sparklehorse, Low, Vic Chesnutt and snowflakes falling in slow motion. He is the co-founder of the record label Son Canciones and curator of the successful concert series Indies Keeping Secrets and FemPop (The Festival That Does Not Want to Exist).
